Department of Arabic started functioning in the same year when the college was established in 1975and ever since the teaching of Arabic language and literature has been continuing as additional common course in graduate level. The department focuses on developing proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing Modern Standard Arabic using ICT enabled class rooms. Students of this department have been securing good percentages of pass with high grades in the university exams. The Department is the authorized center for translation from English to Arabic and vice versa for the documents related to business, travel, civil and legal matters.

Arabic is one of the six official languages recognized by the United Nations, along with Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish. It is the 5th most spoken language in the world. Acquiring linguistic skills in Arabic will open doors to numerous opportunities for students. Presently, the demand for the professionals having Arabic language proficiency is increasing in many job fields especially in multinational companies across India and abroad as most of the companies are involved in colossal business dealings with the Gulf region.

Four Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) in Arabic offered by Kannur University consists of a comprehensive study of the Arabic Language, Literature and culture. Students who joined the courses in Arabic can develop proficiency in modern standard Arabic.
